Big life moment
By Madeline McMurtry
The day my mom moved out to Utah was one of the hardest things to deal with. It was so hard to watch her leave but it was for the best. I feel that if my mom was still living with us my dad would be drinking a lot more then he does now. I would still be really upset and wouldn’t want any of my friends to came to my house.
When my mom was living with us then was a lot of fighting and yelling. I didn’t like to be at my house cause I always got into a fight with my mom. My mom and I didn’t have the best relationship. I was 8 when my mom and I didn’t have a relationship.
Not having a mom in my life for so long kills me inside. She still lived in the house but wouldn’t tell and hang out with the family. It was like she didn’t want to be apart of the family anymore. It didn’t just hurt me it hurt the whole family.
It wasn’t all bad though, when I lost the relationship with my mom my uncles girlfriends was a big part of my life. When my uncle met his girlfriend she came into my life and she was like a mother to me. Her name is Starla and she was then and is now my best friend. She is the person I can go to when I need to talk. She is a big part of my life.
Since my mom has moved out the yelling and fighting came to a end. My dad doesn’t drink and my friends come over. It may be bad to say but my life has changed for the better since she has been in Utah. She calls and we talk. Our relationship is growing and I think my mom and I are going to get along better.
Cyber bullying
By Madeline McMurtry
Cyber bullying is a big deal and it does go on in everyday life. Everyday someone get bullying online and doesn’t say anything about it. Being someone who has gotten bullied in the past I hate seeing others gotten bullied weither it’s online or in person it’s still bullying and its still wrong. So I’m writing this to let you guys know how I fell on the topic of Cyber bullying.
It must make you feel like a bad ass posting and massaging shit online like Facebook, Myspace, else… I mean come on it takes some nerves talking shit and putting people down when you have a computer or phone screen between you and the people your attacking. If your going to say something about someone at least have the ball to say it to their face and tell them why you feel that way instead of talking crap behind their back.
Once you put something online you cant do anything about it. Any one can see it and they can end up posting more hurtful things about it. People join in and it gets around.
I get it, its freedom of speech but there is a difference between speaking your mind and bullying. Its fine to let people know how you feel but you don’t really need to name call and all the extra shit that go’s a long with it.
Now I’m not saying that I haven’t bullied anyone because that would be a lie but I am saying I learn from my mistakes. I know its wrong and I know that doesn’t change the fact that I did it. I feel like in everyone’s life time they have bullied someone weither or not it’s to their face, online, or just but calling them one bad name to their friends its still bullying.
I hate seeing people that are getting bullied. I hate know there are a lot of people out there that are getting bullied and not being able to be something for everyone. If you see or know of people getting bullied you can do something, It can be as small as just telling a parents, it will still help the people getting bullied.
Don’t post the crap online cause anyone can see it. Not everyone needs to know what going on. Most of the people who would see and read it, you don’t even know. So I guess what I’m trying to get at is keep your drama between you and the person you think you have a problem with. Now I know that its still bullying to say it to someone face but at least they have the chance to know what’s going on before someone else does.
Now this is just my opinion and no one has to agree to what I am saying. Like it or not nothing is going to change my mind. Bullying needs to stop and maybe one day it will.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter of recommendation for my close friend and fellow peer, Madeline McMurtry. I have grown very close to Madeline throughout our three shared years of high school. During this time, I have come to recognize many of the positive aspects of Madeline. Her transformation from a shy and seemingly lost girl, to a fiercely independent radiant woman, has been incredible to experience.
She has demonstrated her dedication to bettering her life by managing to keep a steady job throughout her entire senior year of highschool. She has kept her artistic flame alive by putting hours of painstaking practice apply special effects makeup. She sets an example of hard work and diligence to underclassmen and her peers by always putting full effort towards her school work.
It can be expected that Madeline will always treat everyone around her with respect and kindness. She is a genuine person that does not hesitate to stand up for what she believes is right. In my experience, Madeline has always handled problems with logical reasoning and poise. When it came to solving social issues within our highschool relationships, Madeline took on the issue with maturity, never resorting to unnecessary measures.
In my many experiences with her, Madeline has always proved to be very dependable and hardworking. Once she sets her eyes on a goal, she will put in full effort towards achieving it. She leaves no detail unaccounted for. She will make sure that she is completes the task at hand completely and thoroughly. All of her work both for school and for her everyday life, bursts with her own special flare. Madeline invests her heart into her education and passions.
I highly recommend that you take a look at Madeline’s special effects makeup work, as well as her poetry. She is a very imaginative and creative person, with a burning passion for anything self expressive. Her personality and innovative ideas truly shine through in her work. She displays her depth and emotion with her stunning words. Her art will speak volumes towards her spectacular and unique soul.
I can wholeheartedly say that Madeline McMurtry has proven herself to be an admirable and fierce woman, a loyal and genuine friend, and an exceptional human being. It is my full belief that Madeline will achieve success with whatever endeavor she takes on.

Birth story
Then night before I was born was a pretty normal day. My dad went to work. Two of my three brothers went to school and the other brother stayed at home with my mom because he wasn’t old enough to be in school yet (he is only two and a half years older then me.) The day couldnt have be an more calm. Around the time my dad and brothers got home my mom had already had dinner ready to go. My mom wasn’t feeling to well so she had gone to bed earlier then she normally did. My dad had cleaned up dinner and got my brothers all ready for bed. He said that around 12:30 my mom woke him up and said that her water had broken some time around 10:30 and she had just now felt the labor pains. So, they headed to the hospital. By the time my dad woke up my brothers and got to the hospital the doctor said it was time to push. My mom was only in laber for about an hour in a half and then I was born, at 3:45am, January 30, 1998. Three days later me and my mom got to go home.
My parents
Let me tell you about my mom first. My mom is a peice of work, and not all in a bad way. She is very stuck in her ways though. My mom was born and raised in Utah. She also grew up in a Morman household, which is the faith she follows today. She had a pretty normal and calm childhood. She played sotfball in middle school and high school. And like any normal teen she went to parties and had fun. But when she was 17 she went against her religion and her parents beliefs and ended up getting pregnant and having a baby. Her parents kicked her out of the house and she moved in with my dad. A year later she had another baby, four years later she had another and three year after that she had me, all by the age of 26. Every thing was pretty normal until she cheated on my dad. She sat me down and told me she and my dad were going to seperate but that never happened. She said it was because my brother and I were to young to go though that. But little did we know that a few years later we would go through something even harder. When I was 8 and my mom was 36 she got sick and stopped being. My mon has been sick for five years and had never gone for help. Three years ago my mom moved out and went back to Utah to live with her parents and I havent talked to her since. I really don’t have a clue as to how she is.
My dad, on the other hand, had a really bad child hood. He was born in Glenwood and ended up moving to Utah sometime when he was around 5. It was just my dad and his mom (grandma) for ten years. My dad moved a lot so he never really had many friends. Not only did they move a bunch but at some point they for homeless for a few months. My dad never met his dad and he never wants to. When my mom got pregnent he was also 17. He got a job and dropped out of high school, and just like my mom, had 4 kids by the time he was 26. My dad was away on business much of the time between when I was 5 to 10 so he wasn’t really there much for me. After my mom got sick he become depressed and angry but eventuallyt met another woman who he has been with ever since. He is a great man and an amazing dad.
My parents affected me in different ways. My mom taught me that I need to take care of me, because she never did. She also taught me that if I ever had kids I would need to be healthy and in their lives because it really sucks not having a mom. My dad taught me how to be a hard worker and told me how I needed an education because he never had one. He also said that if I was ever in trouble, he would always be on the other side ready to pick me up and let me know how strong I was and remind me that I can do anything.
My brothers
I have three brothers that are all older then me. They are 27, 26 and, 20. My oldest brothers name is Nick. Nick is very shy and stays to himself. He has always been the kind of person who just sits back, listens, and observes. He likes to be present but not noticed. My second oldest brothers name is Michael. Michael is so different from Nick. Michael is the type of person who will do anything to make someone laugh. He likes to have all eyes on him. Michael is a very colorful person. He has tattoos and percings. He is a person who will stand his ground and not tke sh*t from anyone. He is also a peson who will let someone pick on him until you talk about his family and then come at you. He wil do anythng to protect the people he loves. My third oldest brothers name is Anthony. Anthony is a really personal person, but he won’t show anyone his feeling. He is the type of person who will start the fight if someone makes him mad or talks badly about him or his family.
Me and my brothers have had a pretty normal relationship with each other. Like any brothers and sisters, we have had our moments where we fought or didn’t really talk to each other, but at the end of the day it doesnt matter. We will always love each other and will do anything to make sure we were all safe. My brothers taught me to be strong and how to stand up for myself. They also showed me how family treats each other, that no matter how far away we are, or how mad we are at each other, we can always go to each other when there’s trouble.
Pivotal Moment
The moment I met the person I love changed my life. I met Colton Z Mortensen almost two years ago. We met at Yampah and ever since then my life has changed. He brings joy to my life and make me so very happy. He lets me be me an doesn’t think anything of it. My life was really rocky and off path, but since I’ve met him he’s shown me that I can be whoever I want to be and do whatever I want to do. I was always angry and depressed, and even if I still have my moments, I am much happier. He lets me know, and shows me by his support, that everything is going to be okay as long as I believe that everything will be
Happy
The things that make me happy, well, were should I start. It makes me so very happy to see other people happy, not just my friends or family, but seeing people walking on the street with smiles on their faces is such a great moment for me. Animals make me happy. Walking into a house with a dog waging his/her tail, so excited to see you, is an amazing feeling. My family and my loving boyfriend always puts a smile on my face. Seeng them get along and bonding is beautiful. Doing something for someone else and seeing that persons day go from crappy to great, well there’s nothing better than that.
Sad
The things that make me sad. Seeing people upset makes me sad Disappointing people really makes me upset. Having something happen to me or someone I love and knowing I can’t do anything about it sucks. I hate knowing that something bad is happening to people everyday. But the thing that really makes me sad is fighting and yelling. I hate yelling, it makes me feel helpless and alone.
Me
I find myself to be pretty talented. I like to think of myself as a smart and gifted person. I love to sing, I draw and paint, but my favorite talent is doing effects makeup. It really suprised me how good I was at it. I started doing effects makeup about a year ago when I came across a youtube video. It makes me excited about my future and possible career.
I also find myself to be a very outgoing and peacfull person. I am the type of person who will help you with your problems or just sit there and listen if you ever just need to let everything go and talk.
Weaknesses
A major weakness of mine is my temper. I tend to get all worked up about the littlest things. I let my feelings show to the wrong people, and I trust the people I shouldn’t. I put myself down when I do something wrong or think I’m doing something wrong.
Beliefs
I dont really follow a religious belief. I don’t follow a realigion at all. I believe that there may be something out there of a higher power but I wouldnt give it the power to define me or anyone else. I don’t believe that just because someone doesn’t see the world the way I see it makes their opinion wrong. I would never tell somene that their religion is fake or they’re wrong to believe in it. The way I see it, when it’s your time to go, your spirit will always stay on this planet. No matter if you have unfinished business or not. I feel like everyone has their own heaven. That where you want to go is where you will go when its your time. I believe that you will come back on this earth as something else, whether as your spirit animal, a plant, or another person. But that is only my belief and you can think what ever you want to.
Beauty
Beauty to me is knowing who you are. Not just being just okay with it, but being proud and exicted with who you are and what you do in life. The way the sun meets the dawn every moring and the starts at night. Beauty is a state of mind. The way everything makes sense but no sense at the same time.
Friendship
Friendship is when you can go weeks, months, or years without seeng someone and when you do see that person you act like you just saw them yesterday. Friendship is knowing that you can tell that person anythng about youself; your family, your problems, anything, and they won’t tell a soul. Being a friend is trusting that peson with, "your life".
Home
Home isn’t a house where you live or stay at. Home isn’t a place at all. Home is being able to be yourself around other people Home is feeling safe and peacefull. Home is where the people you love are at. Not just your family but friends, people that welcome you with open arms and don’t care how long you need to stay. Home is also knowing yourself.
Good parents
The three most important characteristics to being a good parent are simple. I believe that being patient with your kids is a big part of being a good parent. Another trait is being understanding. You know what your kids are doing and you also know that when you were their age you most likely were doing the same thing. The last trate that you have to listen to your kids. There are so many parents out there who don’t know what is going on in their kids lives. Not knowing who they are with, if they are safe, or if they are getting bullied at school. To be a good parent you have to talk to your kids.
Future Happiness
For my future happiness is need to focus on the here and now. I need to worry about me and my needs and what I have to do. I need to be able to let go of all the weight on my shoulders and be stress free. I need to focus on my present and whats in front of me right now, and not think or stress about what might happen in the future.
Success
To me success isn’t having the most money, nicest car, or biggest house. Success is being able to go home to a roof over your head and food in your stomach. Being happy with where you are in life. By that definition I find myelf very successful. I get to go home with food on the table and shelter over my head. I have people who love me around me everyday day and who would do anything for me. I am very happy with where I am at in my life.
Grateful for:
I am grateful for all the people around me who love and support me.
I'm grateful for the home I get to go to every night.
I'm grateful for being able to have a job and be able to earn my own money.
I'm grateful to my dad for being there for me and trusting me to live my life right.
I'm grateful for my brothers who picked on me and made me the peson I am today.
I’m grateful for my brothers making me strong.
I'm gratefull for the people around me who are still respectful and care for others.
I'm grateful for my loving boyriend who makes me feel safe. He lets me be me with out making me feel weird about it.
1) I am unique in my own way

I need to focus on my present and whats in front of me right now, and not think or stress about what might happen in the future.
Success
To me success isn’t having the most money, nicest car, or biggest house. Success is being able to go home to a roof over your head and food in your stomach. Being happy with where you are in life. By that definition I find myelf very successful. I get to go home with food on the table and shelter over my head. I have people who love me around me everyday day and who would do anything for me. I am very happy with where I am at in my life.
